The festival offers a variety of workshops. Each choir attends one workshop throughout the festival and works with the same workshop leader during all sessions. The results are showcased in a joint closing concert. When you register, your choir will be asked to rank the three workshops you would most like to take part in.

Recommended age: 10-12
Conductor: Marcus Josephson

In this creative workshop you get to explore democracy through choral singing, music and community. Together, we sing, listen to one another and explore how many different voices can come together to form a single sound.

Through song and music, participants will practise making decisions together, taking responsibility for the group and discovering the value of both making their own voice heard and making space for others’ voices. We’ll be doing musical exercises, songs and games that focus on the children’s participation and collaboration.

In a choir, it’s not about everyone being exactly the same – but about different voices coming together to create something greater. In the same way, democracy is built on the idea that we are allowed to be different, listen to one another and, together, shape the society we want to live in.

Scenen är vår

Rek.

Recommended age: 10-12
Conductor: Ida Rosén Hamrå

In this workshop, we’ll explore the possibilities of the stage through playful singing exercises where movement and performance on stage take centre stage. We’ll practise expressing ourselves with both our bodies and our voices, learning to take our place and listen to one another. We’ll sing in unison and in parts, mostly in canon and two-part harmony. Welcome to a fun and varied workshop where we’ll create together!

Kör som berör

Rek. ålder: 13-15
Ledare: Anders Nyberg

Recommended age: 13-15
Conductor: Anders Nyberg

In our workshop, we will mainly be working with traditional songs from different parts of the world: work songs, protest songs and songs for peace and the environment, where the music and lyrics embody the dream of a better world. We will sing in harmony, rhythmically and in a dance-like manner – this is music born of movement; the movement of the body, the heart and all of humanity towards a world of sustainability, justice and freedom.

No prior knowledge is required, but for the song to be authentic and relevant, we need to sing it wholeheartedly and make it our own, in the knowledge that the songs of others are also ours, and that the freedom of others is also our own.

Väverskornas visor

Rek.

Recommended age: 13-19
Conductor: Johanna Thür

In the heart of Västergötland in south-western Sweden, people wove beautiful fabrics in their homes, which were sold by distributors throughout the country. Gradually, textile factories began to emerge. We sing folk songs, polskas and chorales inspired by the women who have passed on music traditions in the region “Tygriket”, in arrangements by Johanna Thür. The workshop raises questions about which voices have been preserved and allowed to live on through history.

Make Some Noise for Democracy!

Rek. ålder: 16-25
Ledare: Florian Benfer

Make Some Noise for Democracy!

Recommended age: 16-25
Conductor: Florian Benfer

What does democracy sound like? Who gets a say? Together with the Swedish Youth Choir and Florian Benfer, we explore democracy through voice, improvisation and choral singing. We create a collective musical prologue and perform Benjamin Britten’s “Advance Democracy” together – a powerful musical statement in support of democracy.
